Seng Girls Vocational Training School -QINGHAI
We continue our support of this program run by LOVEQTRA, now in our 9th year. Captivating are the primary funders of this work, helping over 100 girls through elementary school and beyond. Girls come to this school either due to poverty or prejudice. Most have missed most of their schooling before starting in this program. It is their dream come true.
Vocational School Scholarships – QINGHAI
140 girls (who have already dropped out of school) will be given the opportunity to complete a government subsidized 3 year vocational high-school program. The final year of this program will be an internship into (what is hopefully) their first job. Our team will mentor them through the program and into their first job. 60 girls started the program in 2016, and will this year be joined by another 80 girls.
My First Job – Assistant Chef & Home Services Training – QINGHAI
In remote locations, we are finding many older girls who have missed MOST of their schooling. They are largely illiterate and need a lucky break. We will run two programs this year training girls to become either Assistant Chefs or Home Services support. Our team will then safely transition and mentor girls into their first job.
Each training group consists of 20 girls.
GPA Greenhouses – QINGHAI
Materials, construction assistance/mentoring, as well as latest Greenhouse growing techniques and support will be provided to 200 desperate families. Success will mean children are more secure in school, are healthier, and parents have extra income.
Benefits 200 families and over 400 children.
Captivating/HEIFER China Village Development Program –YUNNAN
Now in the final phase of a 6 year development program in partnership with Heifer China, we are helping 150 impoverished families (and their 200+ children) address their poverty through animal husbandry and agricultural solutions. 450 families will be helped by this program at the conclusion.
Pigs for Poverty – QINGHAI
Two breeding piglets (sows) will be provided to qualifying families along with training on how to manage a profitable breeding program. We will help 300 families over 5 villages.
Healthy Village Program – QINGHAI
Now in its 4rd year as a Captivating program, Nomadic herding families don’t know basic healthcare. They live with chronic illness, high rates of infant mortality, and infectious diseases. 2017’s program will focus on Salar, Tibetan, Hui, Chinese and Mongolian villagers, training on healthy living, STD’s/AIDS, childcare, hygiene etc. Multiple “three-day-long” presentations will be made at each of 11 townships, and will train over 3,500 people.
1,500 women will receive first time medical examinations. Over 90 villages will be reached including local township schools. This is an important investment in the wellbeing of their children.
HOUSE OF JOY – Guizhou Province. A program helping special needs children in a Welfare Institution. – GUIZHOU
This will be our 3rd year supporting this project. In partnership with a Guizhou based Chinese Welfare Institution, this project provides off-site respite for 100 older special needs children to be loved, showered, played with, and taught life skills. Captivating supports 60% of their operating costs.
Capacity Building Program – QINGHAI
50 university level students with an interest in NGO work will be trained to become tomorrow’s NGO leaders. Now in its 4th year, qualifying students will be taught how to assess and manage projects, write up funding proposals, and secure funding. Student proposals form the basis of our Captivating Small Budget Projects.
